How does child psychological counseling work?
Methods for working with children are adapted to age:
- Younger children (3–8 years): play therapy elements, drawing, story therapy, symbolic play – through which the child can express what they don't yet have words for.
- School-age children (8–12 years): more structured tasks, use of stories, relaxation techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy elements.
- Adolescents (13+ years): primarily exploratory dialogue, unconditional acceptance, self-awareness developing approaches.
Parent consultation is part of almost every process – so parents also understand the child's situation and can support change at home.

Frequently Asked Questions – Child Psychology
From what age is counseling available?
From preschool age (3–4 years) up to young adulthood. SoulSpace child specialists work with clients from preschool children through adolescents and young adults.
Is what my child says confidential?
Yes, confidentiality applies. The psychologist only shares information with parents if the child's safety requires it. With younger children closer cooperation with parents is needed, but this is also built on basic trust.
Can parents attend the session?
This depends on age and situation. With younger children parents' presence may be needed; with adolescents a confidential space is generally more important. Parent consultation is also available.
What's the difference between a child psychologist and a child psychiatrist?
A child psychologist provides counseling based on conversation, play and special methods. A child psychiatrist is a doctor who can also prescribe medication. If medication is needed, we refer the child to a psychiatrist.
How do I explain the psychologist visit to my child?
Simply and positively: "We're going to see a specialist who helps when something is bothering you." It's important to present it as help, not punishment. Our colleagues are happy to help with this too.
Is child psychological counseling available online?
Lukácsi Tünde holds online consultations for adolescents and young adults (16+). For younger children, in-person sessions are generally more effective.
